6.5" Flag Rockfish with carved mussels and brass kelp. This fish was carved for its flag- like stripes. I caught it while on a sportfishing trip off the coast of San Diego and was immediately impressed by the vibrancy of its colors. This size would be considered small. Flag Rockfish often grow to between 12"-14". The kelp habitat is my first use of brass tubing on a carving. I had this idea about 5 years ago after finding a similar kelp anchored to a mussel while walking along the beach. I am very happy with the way it turned out.
